Sunspot Solar Observatory.

How strange. It’s the topic that’s filling social media at the moment.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory in the town of Sunspot, New Mexico, United States was closed down by the FBI on Thursday September 6th 2018 and the whole location was evacuated.

At the same the Post Office was also shut down with local residents having to go to another Post Office 60 miles.

The local Sheriffs department was not told of the closure and evacuation which has apparently led to some friction between the Sheriffs Dept. and the Federal Agents.

There are many theories  flying about on social media as to what’s going on from aliens landing, to sunspot activity, to Chinese spying on the nearby White Sands Military base and even to an impending attack from a giant unknown planet.

In truth nobody knows. It may just be something as simple as a chemical spillage or the accidental release of some nuclear isotope over a wide area. It could even be just that someone found asbestos in the buildings. Then again perhaps some disgruntled employee made some threats and maybe went on a shooting rampage. There is reportedly a strange smell hanging over the area so perhaps something was cleaned up?

Biological, Nuclear or Chemical? We’ll just have to wait and see and hope an explanation is forthcoming soon.

UPDATED Monday 17th September 2018

It appears that a criminal enquiry was ongoing at the location and it was believed that a suspect might cause harm to staff or residents. The Observatory was shut down and the staff and residents moved so that they could be better protected.

The secrecy was maintained in order that the suspect would not be aware of the criminal enquiry being carried out and thus ensure the suspect did not flee.

No little Aliens landing or UFO’s flying out of the sun then? That’s a pity.
